Dr. van Amerongen (also known as Dr. Alex), obtained his medical degree from the University of South Dakota, College of Medicine in Vermillion, South Dakota. He completed a residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the University of South Dakota, School of Medicine/Laboratory of Clinical Medicine in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and a fellowship in Cytopathology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in Texas.
Dr. van Amerongen joined BVP in 2002 after serving as Chief of Medical Services, St. Louis/Metro East for Diagnostic Cytology Laboratories (DCL). He is a member of the College of American Pathologists, Alliance Health Providers of Brazos Valley and Brazos Valley Physicians Organization. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine in College Station, Texas. He currently serves as laboratory medical director at the Brenham Clinic Association, Scott and White Hospital - Brenham in Brenham, Texas, and Bellville General Hospital in Bellville, Texas.
